Milos Degenek cites underdog stories of past as Socceroos inspiration
2 min readDOHA: Socceroos defender Milos Degenek said the sky is the limit for what the team can achieve, citing previous underdog stories as inspiration.
« Leicester City won the Premier League four or five years ago, anything’s possible. Croatia went to the final of the World Cup, » he told reporters.
« Anything’s possible. And in the end, these beautiful football stories are the ones that are written in these situations and these moments. It’s these things that define a certain generation, or define you as a person. »

The enormity of their achievements are already clear to see from the outside, but Degenek said it’s unlikely it will sink in anytime soon.
« I think this is something that probably none of us will understand what happened until we get home, whether that’s after the final or whenever. »
Australia won’t have much down time, however, with the round of 16 game just around the corner on Sunday morning at 6am (AEDT).
« In a few days it’s a new game and we have to recover – this moment’s very beautiful for us, you guys are happy and proud, and lets be honest, none of you expected that – but that’s the thing about football and about this group, we believed from day one that this was possible, » Degenek said.
The Socceroos will wait and see who they play, but are ready for any of Argentina, Saudi Arabia or Poland.
« You obviously care to a certain point who you play, but it’s 11 against 11. It’s football, anything can happen. »
