Ponting returned to his hotel on Friday evening and Seven will assess the matter on Saturday morning.

Australian captain Pat Cummins was taken aback by the revelation after play.

« I only heard about it a few minutes ago but, yeah, obviously wish Ricky the best, » Cummins said.

« Just chatting to him this morning out in the field and, yeah, by all reports it sounds like he’s going OK, but anything like that’s obviously super scary. So wish him the best.″⁣
