Ford parity request leaves rival teams fuming, Jamie Whincup opposes Mustang changes

1 min read

A last-minute request from Ford has enraged its rivals ahead of Bathurst 1000, with team bosses set for a crucial meeting this week.

According to Speedcafe reports, Ford is proposing a new front bar and rear wing to move the balance of aerodynamic pressure rearwards by adding rear downforce.

Ford’s latest plea comes after a request for new door and rear quarter panels were already approved for use at Bathurst, with the new panels 5.84 kg lighter than the previous specifications.

The request comes after Chevrolet drivers dominated the Sandown 500, with Ford fearing the results could be more lop-sided against them at Bathurst if changes aren’t made.

The parity review system is triggered by a performance analysis of the previous five races or of five of eight previous races.

General Motors teams are expected to oppose Ford’s latest request, with Triple Eight boss Jamie Whincup slamming Ford.

« The talk of doing aero updates for the next round is just outrageous, » he told Castrol Motorsport News. « We’ve had enough. »

« We’ve given the Ford guys all year to develop, and they’re as close as they have ever been right now. »
