Cricket news 2022 | Australia v West Indies first Test in Perth, Nkrumah Bonner hit in head, retires hurt

A vicious bouncer delivered by Cameron Green has forced West Indies No.3 Nkrumah Bonner to retire hurt after he was struck on the head and became dizzy.

Bonner, who came to the crease after Josh Hazlewood took the early wicket of Tagenarine Chanderpaul for 51 on day three of the Perth Test, weathered an early storm and was starting to look more comfortable at the crease when he called for the doctor before walking off when he was 16 off 47 balls.

That moment came 30 minutes after Bonner was struck by Green, with the batter initially deemed OK to continue.

« Hopefully he’s OK, » Mark Howard said in commentary for Fox Cricket.

« We’re getting word that he’s feeling dizzy.

« There was that nasty blow from Green, and that’s not a good sight. »

Mark Waugh added: « It probably wasn’t short enough to get under, and it’s got him right on the bottom of the back of the helmet.

« That would have really stung him. That can often happen, you start to feel dizzy or a bit nauseous after the blow. »

Jermaine Blackwood came to the crease following Bonner’s retirement and survived to lunch in partnership with unbeaten opener Kraigg Brathwaite. At lunch on day three the West Indies are 1-150 with Brathwaite on 62 and Blackwood on nine.
