Cam Smith rips Scottie Scheffler after walk-through at St Jude Championships

Australian star Cam Smith has hit out at world No.1 Scottie Scheffler over what he has deemed to be a « dick move » from the American.

Scheffler broke one of golf’s unwritten rules, walking directly in front of the world No.2-ranked Aussie as he lined up a putt on the 12th green during the first round of the St Jude Championships in Memphis, USA.

Smith was visibly frustrated with Scheffler when the incident occurred, looking up at the American before gathering his focus.

However, when he was asked about Scheffler’s actions after the day’s play, Smith showed there was no love lost between the pair.

« Scottie has always lacked class in my opinion, » he told reporters.

« For him to walk in my line … I mean, it was a dick move. »

Scheffler’s act took place with Smith’s potential upcoming defection to the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series, which the American has been in staunch opposition against.

Smith said he was « ready to cop some heat » in a TV interview on Friday, the biggest indication yet that he’s set to join the rebel tour.

« Those guys kind of made their decision to go join another tour and they broke the rules and regulations of our tour and now they’re trying to sue us, which is definitely a bit frustrating, » Scheffler said of the players defecting to the LIV Series.

« I definitely am surprised to see some guys now suing us. If they win, come out here and play, that’s something that’s up to the courts, I can’t control what’s going to happen in a court case. Definitely interested but at the end of the day it has no effect on my preparation for the week. »
