Tom Brady has high praise for Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, 38, made it clear this summer that he has little interest in following in the footsteps of Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Tom Brady in playing past his 45th birthday. The two nevertheless have plenty in common as the 2-0 Buccaneers prepare to host the 1-1 Packers this Sunday.

During a Thursday press conference, Brady offered praise for his counterpart, who could join him in retirement as soon as this winter depending on all that occurs over the next handful of months.

« He’s an amazing player. Has been for a long time, » Brady said of Rodgers, per Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk. « I love watching him play and he’s from California, too, so I feel like we always have a little bit of a connection. He’s an older guy now. He’s been a great player in the same place for a long time, so there definitely are some challenges with that. But he’s navigated them pretty well.

« And he’s done a great job, leads the team, and they’ve won a lot of games since he’s been there. I knew Brett [Favre] pretty well — those two guys are two pretty great quarterbacks for a long period of time in one place. »

Brady played with the New England Patriots from 2000 through the 2019 season until he signed with the Buccaneers as a free agent, while Rodgers has been with the Packers since the 2005 NFL Draft.

Brady and the 2020 Buccaneers trounced the Packers 38-10 in October that year and then went on to notch a 31-26 victory at Lambeau Field in the NFC Championship Game the subsequent January. While nothing’s for sure, logic suggests this Sunday’s contest will be the last regular-season matchup between the future Hall of Famers.
