Joe Burrow on ‘voice rest’ after throat scare

1 min read

Cincinnati Bengals starting quarterback Joe Burrow survived his latest health scare and was released from the hospital this past Sunday night after it was feared he suffered a throat contusion. The injury occurred after at least one brutal hit that he took during the Week 5 overtime loss to the Green Bay Packers that dropped the Bengals to 3-2 on the season.

Burrow is practicing ahead of this Sunday’s matchup at the 0-5 Detroit Lions, but Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk notes that Cincy head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Wednesday his QB1 is currently on « voice rest. » It’s unclear if Burrow will face any restrictions yelling out plays or audibles in Detroit.

Burrow went down to a torn ACL last November and potentially could’ve avoided this throat-related setback had he slid to avoid contact with would-be tacklers versus Green Bay. As The Athletic explained, Packers signal-caller Aaron Rodgers said during his latest appearance on « The Pat McAfee Show » that he offered some advice to Burrow.

« Slide. I said, ‘You’re too damn talented,' » Rodgers admitted he told Burrow after the game. « ‘You’ve got so much in front of you to accomplish in this league. Sometimes you gotta slide.’ I would’ve said the same thing to Andrew (Luck). »
