« He didn’t just play the game – he reshaped it.
« And how fitting that Friday night’s game was a cliffhanger between the Dees and the Blues.
« The Department of Premier and Cabinet will work with Mr Barassi’s family and state memorial details will be announced in due course. »
The AFL has also been urged to create an honour in Barassi’s name, with several prominent voices in the game calling for the league to rename its premiership cup after the 10-time premiership winner.
