Supercars news | Brodie Kostecki meets with NASCAR teams during US visit

A young Supercars star has revealed he is unsatisfied racing V8s alone and has taken another step towards achieving his NASCAR dream.
Erebus gun Brodie Kostecki is hoping to secure a part-time seat in either of the two top US NASCAR series for 2023, having met several key personnel during a recent trip stateside.
Kostecki is no stranger to NASCAR. Before making his Supercars debut he spent two years in the US racing in the lower-level K&N Pro Series, with a pair of eighth-placed finishes in 2014 his best.

While attending the Indianapolis 500 and a NASCAR Cup Series race at WWT Raceway in Illinois, Kostecki met with key contacts made during his time racing in the US, who may be able to facilitate the 24-year-old earning a ride for a handful of races next year.
He told motorsport.com that he remains committed to racing the full Supercars season with Erebus Motorsport, who will next year race Chevrolet Camaros as the sport begins its new Gen3 era.
But, he said racing Supercars alone isn’t enough.
« I don’t have anything set in stone. Whether it’s (top tier) Cup or (second tier) Xfinity, I’m not too fazed, » he said.
« I just want to do more racing next year. That will go along with my Supercars schedule. It’s just more racing in general.
« I think a few people have read it a bit differently to what I’m trying to achieve, and that’s to race more often. (Supercars) only race 12 or 13 times a year and that doesn’t really satisfy me. So I want to race a bit more. »
Kostecki’s Supercars boss Barry Ryan also teed up a meeting with expat James Small – a former Bathurst 1000 champion engineer who moved to the US to chase his own NASCAR dream about a decade ago. Small is now crew chief to Cup series star Martin Truex Jr.
Kostecki said catching up with Small was « cool », but indicated a deal was far from done.
« We’ll see what happens. »
