NBA news LeBron James son Bronny face mask rules, Los Angeles Lakers 2021

TV cameras have left LeBron James with some explaining to do as a “zero sense” Covid safety regulation fell apart around him.

LeBron James and his son Bronny have made a mockery of Californian health regulations as a mask restriction law fell apart this weekend.

The Lakers superstar was sitting courtside as his 17-year-old son put on a clinic in a nationally-televised high school game in Los Angeles on Sunday (AEDT).

However, the Sierra Canyon High School student-athlete was seen tearing it up on the court with a mask tucked under his chin.

Half the players on the court were also playing with masks not covering their noses or mouths while other players didn’t even bother with masks.

The spectacle is in direct violation of California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) rules — as taken from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) orders.

Under the laws, school students are required to wear masks even in the middle of indoor athletic competition, Fox News first reported.

The order fell apart during the high profile high school series hosted by James and broadcast by ESPN in the United States from the Staples Centre, a stadium with a capacity of 19,000 seats.

James Sr was also busted in violation of state health orders when he was seen without a mask on throughout the contest.

Los Angeles County COVID-19 rules mandates that all people in indoor public spaces, including sporting events, must wear masks regardless of whether they’ve been vaccinated.

Patrons inside Staples Centre were only allowed to remove their masks while eating or drinking.

The USA Today reported James was seen drinking from a water bottle and eating popcorn.

James posted on Twitter earlier in the tournament series the health orders made “zero sense”.

“I’m sorry but I’m at my boys game and the mask underneath the chin makes ZERO sense to me,” he wrote.

James also had a tough night out watching his son play against his former high school.

Bronny scored 19 points in a performance that has created plenty of headlines, but it was the sight of his mask dangling loose from his chin that overshadowed the performance.

He had played the entire series with a mask under his chin.

He was the best player on the court in the 71-53 victory over St. Vincent-St. Mary.

“It felt special playing on the same court as he’s played,” Bronny James said of his father after the win, according to Yahoo Sports.

“I’m getting a lot of confidence from that, and it was a really special game for me. Afterwards, he just said he liked everything I was doing, with my poise and my pace for the game.”
